History

In 1971, Beaumont became the first city in Texas to institute a leadership development program.  In 1991, Leadership Beaumont started two new leadership programs, Leadership Southeast Texas and Youth Leadership, and in 2002, began the Public Service Candidate School.  Since 1971, more than 1100 area men and women have participated in the Leadership Beaumont program.  Many have gone on to become leaders in various fields of endeavor, and other cities throughout the state have followed Beaumont’s lead and established leadership programs of their own.
